Memorable Lesson: Windows and Doors

In one of my earliest lessons I finished the pre-flight checkout taxied out to the hold short area just before you take off. There is another small checklist of items called the pre-takeoff checklist. In which you check if your seat belts are tight, if the transponder is on and transmitting, if the lights are on, and if the windows and door are shut. Well I sort of glazed through the list and then realized to my amazement that the door wasn’t locked shut! It was only barely closed…not a good thing when your a thousand feet in the air. That was a good lesson in checklists.
